Stone Age Customer Service
Transform Tuesday #66
“There's always something, someone you can learn from in every job.” — Aaron Pang
Here's 1 idea, 1 lesson and 1 question for your personal growth this week.
1 Idea
After switching my college major from actuary to marketing and management, I realised I had to work on my speaking. To tackle it, I applied for different front-line jobs and my first one was at a Taiwanese bubble tea shop called Easy Way.
I was placed at the busiest train station, Town Hall in Sydney, where I had to memorize over 50 recipes and serve customers. Friday nights were the toughest, with super long queues, but I enjoyed every second of it. During my breaks, I would make drinks for myself; my favorite was Papaya Milk.
What was your first part-time job?
1 Lesson
That was 20 years ago. Reflecting on sales and customer service today, I think it has regressed rather than progressed.
A few problems I’ve noticed in major retail stores:
Sales assistants are glued to their phones when stores are quiet.
They struggle with small talks.
I rarely feel their passion.
Do you agree?
1 Question for You
